Abstract:The House of Commons Speaker received a standing ovation - from some - as he said he would quit.
John Bercow says he will stand down as Commons Speaker and MP at the next election or on 31 October, whichever comes first.
Mr Bercow received a standing ovation from the Labour benches after announcing his imminent departure, but many Conservative MPs stayed in their seats.
He spoke about his love of Parliament, and there were emotional moments as he thanked his family for their support.
