LONDON (Reuters) - Andrea Leadsom, who is in charge of the British governments business in parliament, said on Wednesday the government would oppose the business motion allowing lawmakers to take control of the Brexit process, calling it a worrying precedent.
“Today's motion is an extremely concerning precedent for our democracy,” Leadsom told parliament.
“It is for parliament to scrutinize, to amend, to reject and to approve, what today does is effectively turn that precedent on its head. Those who are not in government are deciding the business.”
