DUP says Brexit position unchanged after report it favors delay

BELFAST (Reuters) - Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party's (DUP) position on Brexit remains unchanged, a spokesman for the party propping up Prime Minister Theresa May's government said on Tuesday in response to a report that it favors a long delay.

Sky News quoted a source close to talks between the DUP and the British government as saying the party's lawmakers were moving towards “a long extension, perhaps a year or more, which would mean a change of leader and a different approach.” The DUP said publicly earlier on Tuesday it would prefer no Brexit deal to the prime minister's deal.

“Our position remains unchanged and as previously set out. We will judge all proposals and scenarios on the basis of our objectives to maintain the integrity of the United Kingdom and deliver on the referendum result,” the spokesman said.
