Abstract:Pre-registration not mandatory, 18+ can walk in for vaccination, says govt.
Online registration is not mandatory for Covid-19 vaccination, the Union Health Ministry has said. Any adult can go to the nearest vaccination centre, perform the on-site registration and receive the vaccine during the same visit, it added. The statement, issued by PIB, went on to say that CoWin platform is just one of the many modes of registration for vaccinations apart from walk-ins. Health workers or ASHAs mobilise beneficiaries in rural areas and urban slums to opt for on-site registration to expand vaccination coverage, the statement added. “Out of the 28.36 crore beneficiaries registered on CoWin till June 13, 16.45 crore (58 per cent) beneficiaries have been registered in the on-site mode,” said the statement. It added that out of the total 24.84 crore vaccine doses recorded on Co-WIN till June 13, 19.84 crore doses (nearly 80 per cent) have been administered through on-site registrations.
Meanwhile, in a bid to clear the air over reports suggesting a disparity between urban and rural vaccination numbers, the Health Ministry said 71 per cent of all 69,995 registered vaccination centres are located in rural areas. The central government also said that vaccination coverage (per million population) is higher in tribal districts, compared to the national average.Vaccination coverage in as many as 128 of the total 176 tribal districts is higher than the national average. Gender ratio among vaccine beneficiaries is also better in tribal districts, the Health Ministry said. It also said that more walk-in vaccinations are being reported from tribal districts than the national average.
