LONDON (dpa-AFX) - Die erwartete deutliche Leitzinserhöhung der britischen Zentralbank trifft nach Einschätzung eines Konjunkturexperten vor allem Immobilieneigentümer. Dies wird unweigerlich Hausbesitzern schaden, deren Festzinsverträge auslaufen, sagt der Ökonom Michal Stelmach vom Wirtschaftsprüfungs- und Beratungsinstitut KPMG in London der Deutschen Presse-Agentur. Dabei litten die Menschen in Großbritannien bereits unter steigenden Energie- und Lebensmittelpreisen. Auch Unternehmen, die zur Finanzierung weitgehend auf variabel verzinsliche Darlehen angewiesen sind, seien betroffen, sagte Stelmach.
Es wird damit gerechnet, dass die Bank of England am Donnerstag ihren Leitzins von derzeit 2,25 Prozent erneut deutlich erhöht, um die enorme Inflation von zuletzt 10,1 Prozent in den Griff zu bekommen. Im Gespräch ist ein Anstieg auf 3 Prozent, das wäre der höchste Sprung seit 1989.
Hypotheken machen den größten Anteil an der Verschuldung privater Haushalte aus und drei Viertel der gesamten finanziellen Verbindlichkeiten, sagte der Analyst. Zwar hätten derzeit 86 Prozent der Hypotheken einen festen Zinssatz. Doch würden vermutlich 40 Prozent der Hypothekengeber innerhalb der nächsten 12 Monate auf einen höheren Zinssatz umsteigen. In Großbritannien gilt ein Festzins in aller Regel nur für wenige Jahre nach Kauf.
