Reason for this visit

Macao's economy has developed rapidly since its return to the motherland. However, its industrial structure is overly dependent on the gaming industry, which brings uncertainty to the long-term economic development. Behind the development of the financial industry in Macau, the SAR government intends to change the industrial structure of the gaming industry's "dominant status", which also coincides with its comparative advantages. Based on its resource endowment and industrial foundation, the sub-sectors such as financial leasing, wealth management, and RMB settlement business in Macau are also favored by the market. Nevertheless, since the financial industry is currently in its infancy, Macau needs to work hard to improve the legal system, build financial infrastructure, recruit professional talents, and promote the advancement of business concepts and financial education. In order to help investors and practitioners have a more comprehensive understanding of local foreign exchange dealers in Macau, the field survey team is going there for site visits.

On-site visit

This time the survey team went to Macau, China to visit the foreign exchange dealer ESW Capital Markets as planned. The survey address is Level 20, AIA Tower, Nos 251A-301 Avenida Comercial De Macau, Macau.

The survey personnel came to the destination of the current survey according to the above address. The AIA Tower is located in the commercial core of Macau's Nanwan District, close to major government and financial institutions, and adjacent to international hotels such as Grand Emperor Hotel, Hotel Lisboa Macau, and Wynn Macau.

The investigators could not find the logo or other relevant information of the foreign exchange dealer ESW Capital Markets in the water signs affixed to the building wall.

The investigators did not find any information about ESW Capital Markets on the sign in the lobby on the first floor either, so they went upstairs. Having searched the entire 20th floor, they confirmed that there is no ESW Capital Markets office.

The survey personnel also went to the 19th floor to check, but could not find the company.

Conclusion

The investigators went to Macau, China to visit the foreign exchange dealer ESW Capital Markets as planned, but did not find the dealer's office at its publicly displayed business address. The dealer may have just registered the company at this address without real business place. Investors are advised to choose this dealer carefully.
